Operational Clinical Nurse Specialist (Theatre) – East Rand

Shift Pursuit is excited to announce an opportunity for an Operational Clinical Nurse Specialist to join a dynamic theatre team. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, competent nursing care while acting as a clinical resource and leader in the operating theatre. The ideal candidate will have sound and contemporary knowledge of theatre practice, along with an advanced understanding of professional nursing, healthcare delivery, and programme planning. This position reports directly to the Theatre Unit Manager. Requirements:

• Post Graduate Diploma or Qualification in Operating Room Nursing Science (essential)
• Diploma/Degree in General Nursing
• SANC Registered
• Thorough knowledge of theatre nursing theory and practice
• Minimum 4 – 5 years of experience within theatre

Duties & Responsibilities:

Operational Management & Leadership

• Support the Theatre Unit Manager to ensure safe, cost-effective, and high-quality patient care aligned with Clinical Governance, evidence-based practice, and healthcare research.
• Act as shift coordinator, overseeing the delivery and coordination of competent nursing care.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in compliance and improvement processes.
• Supervise and mentor less experienced staff; act as a preceptor for new staff and assist in the clinical teaching of learners.
• Provide leadership in clinical situations, serving as an influential role model for best professional practice.
• Allocate staff effectively to optimize skill utilization and theatre workflow, adjusting levels according to theatre needs in collaboration with the Unit Manager.
• Create a positive work environment that boosts morale, productivity, and employee engagement.
• Foster effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal relationships within the unit, multidisciplinary teams, and with the public.

Clinical Expertise & Teaching

• Deliver advanced, high-quality clinical care in the theatre environment.
• Serve as a resource and source of expert knowledge in the specialty.
• Orientate new staff and students to ensure a thorough understanding of theatre practices.
• Contribute to ongoing research, development, and review of best practice within the specialty.
• Participate in quality improvement and management initiatives, including reporting and presenting outcomes.

Professional Development & Collaboration

• Actively engage in own professional development to maintain skills and knowledge at an advanced level.
• Build collaborative relationships to support work goals and departmental objectives.
• Promote good public relations while interpreting and applying the unit’s philosophy, goals, and policies.
