Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Operating Theatre/Perioperative Nursing
Minimum of 5 years’ experience
Degree/diploma in General Nursing
SANC Registered
Key Performance Areas:
Prepare the operating theatre by ensuring all surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables are sterile, functional, and ready for procedures.
Scrub and assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating procedural needs.
Perform circulating duties, including patient positioning, documentation, and ensuring adherence to surgical safety protocols.
Monitor patients intra-operatively, assisting the anaesthetic team and responding promptly to any changes in patient condition.
Ensure strict infection prevention and control practices are always maintained.
Conduct surgical counts (instruments, swabs, needles) before, during, and after procedures to ensure patient safety.
Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, anaesthetists, and recovery staff.
Provide pre- and post-operative patient care, including preparation, education, and handover to recovery units.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in line with hospital policies and legal requirements.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, ethical standards, and hospital protocols.
Participate in stock control, equipment maintenance, and cost-effective resource management.
Support and mentor junior staff and students within the theatre environment.
